ANS Commends Members on Senate Confirmations

The American Nuclear Society commends three members on the Senate confirmations they received on August 5, after being nominated by President Obama earlier this year.

Joyce Louise Connery was confirmed as Chair of the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) and Dr. Joseph Bruce Hamilton as a board member of the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board. Dr. Monica Regalbuto was approved as Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management at Department of Energy.

“The accomplishments of these ANS members demonstrate the fundamental principles of being an ANS member– to uphold and advance the integrity and honor of their professions by using their knowledge and skill for the enhancement of human welfare and the environment, “ said ANS President Eugene S. Grecheck. “These three individuals are truly an inspiration to our young members.”

Joyce Louise Connery is Director of Nuclear Energy Policy for the National Security Council and has been an ANS member since 2012. She is active on the Fuel Cycle and Waste Management Division and the Nuclear Nonproliferation Policy Division.

Dr. Hamilton was formally appointed to the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board on August 10, 2015.  He was previously the President of a nuclear fuel procurement company, a nuclear power plant Engineering Director and licensed SRO, and a Navy Captain.  Hamilton is a registered professional engineer in Dallas, Texas. He has been a member of ANS since 2008 and serves with the Fuel Cycle and Waste Management Division and the Operations and Power Division.

Dr. Regalbuto is a chemical engineer for the DOE and has been a member of ANS since January 2003. She is active on the Fuel Cycle and Waste Management Division as well as the Materials Science and Technology Division.

The Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board is an independent organization within the executive branch chartered with the responsibility of providing recommendations and advice to the President and the Secretary of Energy regarding public health and safety issues at Department of Energy defense nuclear facilities.
