American Nuclear Society Presents Member Honors and Awards

Winter Meeting Celebrates Members

Various American Nuclear Society (ANS) members were honored at the Winter Meeting in Anaheim, CA.

The Fellow Honors and Seaborg Medal were presented at the Opening Plenary Session held the morning of Monday, Nov 10 by ANS President Dr. Michaele Brady Raap.  Those recognized as leaders in the nuclear industry with Fellow Honors: Hasem M. Hashemian, Ayman I. Hawari, Richard J. Kurtz, Arthur T. Motta, and David W. Nigg.  Charles W. Forsberg was awarded the Seaborg Medal for his advancement of innovative ideas with the nuclear industry.

At the President’s Special Session, later that same day, several more ANS members were honored. Receiving the Presidential Citation Awards were Harsh S. Desai for his invaluable work as a Congressional Fellow, and James W. Behrens in recognition of his consistent volunteer service to the ANS.

Twelve additional ANS members were also awarded prestigious awards.  Those awardees included: Shannon M. Bragg-Sitton, Mary Jane Oestmann Professional Women’s AchievementGail H. Marcus, E. Gail de Planque National; W. David Pointer, Young Member Advancement; Rachel Slaybaugh, Young Member Excellence; Mary Lou Dunzik-Gougar, Landis Public Communications and Education; Charlie Nesbitt, Robert L. Long Training Excellence; Elmer E. Lewis, Eugene P. Winger Reactor Physicist; Dean J. Mitchell, Radiation Science & Technology; Ahmad Alsabbagh, Mark Mills; Donald J. Dudziak, RockwellJose N. Reyes, Technical Achievement; and the High Flux Isotope Reactor, Nuclear Landmark.

Local ANS Sections that were recipients of the Meritorious Award were: Pittsburgh, San Diego, Idaho and Savannah River.
