DOE Pushes Small Modular Reactors at ANS Local Section Meeting
At a recent gathering of American Nuclear Society Chicago Section, Dr. Peter Lyons, Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy at the Department of Energy, emphasized the need for new nuclear reactor design in the form of small modular reactors and other emerging technologies.
Lyons was supportive of the current fleet of reactors, noting their longevity due to design integrity, but emphasized the need to also address affordability of new reactor technology.
