ANS Remembers Joseph Thomas

Former ANS Chair of the Nuclear Criticality and Safety Division (NCSD) Joseph Thomas passed away on January 22, 2014. Joe worked at ORNL for 37 years, eventually becoming the Criticality Safety Studies Project Leader and Chair of the ORNL Criticality Safety Review Committee, until retirement in 1990.

ANS Vice President/President-Elect Michaele Brady Raap called Thomas “a pioneer of criticality safety.” After serving in the United States Navy, he earned his B.S. from the University of Detroit and his M.S. from the University of Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, his family has requested contributions be made to the NCSD Pioneers Scholarship fund.
