The American Nuclear Society (ANS), in coordination with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), will host a live online webinar for nuclear bloggers on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, from 11 AM - 12 Noon Eastern Time, ANS President Eric P. Loewen, PhD, announced today. "This novel event is a wonderful demonstration of ANS's enhanced role in the nuclear community. Never before has the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission engaged in this sort of outreach, and they looked to ANS to prepare, facilitate, and moderate the webinar," said Loewen.

Participants in the October 4 session will be able to submit questions ahead of time using a designated NRC email address: BlogMtg1.Resource@nrc.gov. While Chairman Jaczko will likely be unable to answer all of the questions submitted in the time available, Eliot Brenner, Chief of NRC Public Affairs, said, "The agency will endeavor to address them online after the webinar via its blog at:http://public-blog.nrc-gateway.gov/. Time will also be allocated to answering questions submitted by participants via an online form on the webinar website."

When asked about the webinar, Loewen said, "All aspects of social media are becoming vital to the way we communicate with the general public, students, policy makers, and our own colleagues. We're very pleased to create the first of its kind event, which will create a forum for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to reach an important constituency, those in the nuclear social media community."
