Cooperation and collaboration are the foundation of the nuclear community and this visit is uniquely useful in promoting those goals,. said Tilbrook.

Loewen, when asked about the trip, said, "My colleagues, who come from academia, the United States Government, and industry, will be able to see first hand what is happening in India, as that country continues to develop nuclear energy in order to provide safe, clean and affordable electricity to a growing population and economy. Of course, as a nuclear engineer, I'm particularly eager to visit some of the leading sites while there."

President Loewen will present an ANS Presidential Citation to Dr. Anil Kakodkar for his critical leadership role in successfully negotiating the Indo-U.S. civil nuclear agreement as Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy. He will also present opening remarks at the Indo-U.S. Summit, and ANS will exhibit at the 2011 India Nuclear Energy Expo in Mumbai, the largest of its kind in India.

Loewen concluded, "On this tour, I.ll make many new friends and learn a lot about the important issues facing us as we develop and improve collaboration and cooperation between the nuclear communities in our two countries. The American Nuclear Society is uniquely suited to undertake this kind of role. As a professional society, its members are in the best position to transcend geographical boundaries and to share and learn from each other".
