ANS supports Bush's inclusion of nuclear among renewable energy sources

In response to member interest, ANS President Jim Tulenko took action last month to encourage the Bush administration's characterization of nuclear as a renewable energy source.

A letter submitted to President Bush on behalf of the Society expressed support for recent efforts to promote the use of nuclear energy.

President Bush, in a January interview with the Wall Street Journal, described nuclear power as a "renewable" energy source and stated, "I believe nuclear power answers a lot of our [environmental] issues." His statement drew criticism from some environmental groups. Mr. Tulenko offered ANS scientific and technical information to substantiate the benefits of nuclear power expansion.
