This award was established in 1995 to honor Alvin M. Weinberg and to provide international recognition for contributions to the understanding of the social implications of nuclear technology.  The award is to be made to an individual in recognition of outstanding international technical and policy leadership in nuclear science and technology, and for consistently and effectively illuminating the human dimensions of the nuclear enterprise.  The awardee must have demonstrated such achievements over a sustained period of several years.  Nominees need not be ANS members, but must be living at the time of nomination.

Nominees may be from any nation, need not be ANS members, but must be living at the time he/she is selected.  Nominations are made with a full letter of recommendation which includes a narrative summary of about 1,000 words stating accomplishments in the field, period of activity, and significance of achievements.  A list of publications and a brief chronological resume should also be included.

Nomination forms are available from ANS Headquarters and from this web site.  The deadline for receipt of nominations is July 1.  Eight sets of the nomination form and materials are required.

An engraved medal and citation, along with a $1,000 monetary award, are presented at the ANS Winter Meeting.
