  • ANS releases major report on NUREG-1150, NRC's study of severe accident risks.

1991
  • America's nuclear power plants set record for amount of electricity generated, surpassing the 1956 level for all fuel sources combined.
  • First U.S. commercial food irradiation plant in Florida ships its irradiated strawberries to Miami, Spokane, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Rhode Island, Italy, and France.

  • ANS establishes current office in Washington, D.C.
  • President Clinton certifies that China supports international nuclear nonproliferation efforts, paving the way for the sale of U.S. nuclear technology to that country.
