1970
  • First overseas ANS local sections are established: Europe-Belgium (now Belgian Nuclear Society, an ANS Affiliated Society); Europe-Central; and Europe-France.
  • Nuclear Standards News is first published.

1971
  • ANS participates in Fourth Geneva Conference, publishes special (extra) issue of Nuclear News about conference.

1974
  • Atomic Energy Commission splits into the Energy Research and Development Administration and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

1976

1978
  • ANS purchases the old Oak School and moves to La Grange Park, Illinois.

1979
  • Three Mile Island accident occurs in Pennsylvania.
  • Alpha Nu Sigma honor society established.
  • First ANS public policy statement (High-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal) is issued.
